PlantGift describes the range as one of Ireland's widest online selections of box hedge alternatives. It gives Irish gardeners whose box hedges have been hit by box blight or box tree moth a direct replacement. **KEY FACTS** • **What it is:** An expanded hedging range at PlantGift.ie, with more than 80 hedging lines • **Pack sizes:** 6 to 72 plants • **Box alternatives:** Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire', 'White Spire' and 'Paloma Blanca'; Ilex crenata (Japanese holly) 'Jenny', 'Stokes', 'Convexa' and 'Golden Gem'; Lonicera nitida 'Maigrün'; Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' and 'Emerald 'n Gold' • **Price guide:** Green Spire works out from about €12.60 per metre • **Delivery:** Free and tracked across Ireland and 24 more EU countries, usually 5-8 working days, no minimum spend • **Guidance included:** Plants-per-metre sizing and a healthy-arrival guarantee • **Best planting times:** Autumn and spring • **Full range and planting guide:** https://plantgift.ie/collections/hedge-plants For Irish gardeners looking for a replacement for box hedging lost to blight or moth, the range is organised so that a hedge can be replaced in a single order. Each hedging line comes with plants-per-metre guidance, so the pack size can be matched to the length of the hedge. **Box Hedge Alternatives** PlantGift's box alternatives cover three plant groups. Each is offered in packs sized by the metre. • Euonymus japonicus: 'Green Spire', 'White Spire' and 'Paloma Blanca'. • Ilex crenata (Japanese holly): 'Jenny', 'Stokes', 'Convexa' and 'Golden Gem'. • Lonicera nitida 'Maigrün'. • Euonymus fortunei: 'Emerald Gaiety' and 'Emerald 'n Gold'. These lines are intended for gardeners who want a hedge that looks like box but is not affected by box blight or box tree moth. **Options for Gardeners Who Still Want Box** For gardeners who still want box, PlantGift's range includes BetterBuxus 'Babylon Beauty' and Buxus NewGen Freedom, alongside common Buxus sempervirens. PlantGift provides clear guidance on blight and moth risk for each, so buyers can make an informed choice before ordering. **Taller and Screening Hedges** The expanded range also covers taller hedges and screens. PlantGift lists the following lines: • Yew. • Cherry laurel in three varieties: 'Rotundifolia', 'Caucasica' and 'Novita'. • Photinia 'Red Robin' and 'Carre Rouge'. • Privet. • Elaeagnus. • Thuja 'Smaragd'. • Leylandii. • Non-invasive clumping Fargesia bamboo. **Sizing Guidance** PlantGift publishes plants-per-metre figures so that gardeners can calculate how many plants a hedge needs. Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' is planted at 6-7 plants per metre. Japanese holly is planted at 7-8 plants per metre. Lavender needs about 3 plants per metre, and bamboo about 2. A 48-pack plants roughly 8 metres. Green Spire typically closes into a solid low hedge in about two growing seasons. Green Spire works out from about €12.60 per metre. **Delivery** Delivery is free and tracked across Ireland and 24 more EU countries. Delivery usually takes 5-8 working days, and there is no minimum spend. Every order is covered by PlantGift's healthy-arrival guarantee. **Planting Advice for Replacing Box** Autumn and spring are the best planting times. When replacing box, gardeners should remove old roots and leaf litter first, because blight spores persist in the soil. PlantGift includes this advice in its planting guide, available with the full range at https://plantgift.ie/collections/hedge-plants. **Company Statement** "Box blight has taken out hedges that families tended for decades, and most people just want something that looks the same and won't die on them. Green Spire and Japanese holly clip to the same neat shape, and because we sell them in packs sized by the metre, replacing a hedge is a single order delivered free to the door." The statement was issued by PlantGift. **About PlantGift** PlantGift is a family-run online plant shop based in Dublin. It supplies garden, hedging and indoor plants from partner growers.
