What is Instant Indexing?
Instant indexing refers to the ability to notify search engines immediately when content is published, updated, or deleted—without waiting for crawlers to discover changes naturally.
IndexNow Protocol
IndexNow is an open protocol that allows websites to instantly notify search engines about content changes. A single API call to one search engine is shared with all IndexNow participants, enabling ping-once-notify-many functionality.
Before IndexNow, publishers had two options:
- Wait for crawlers: Could take days or weeks for changes to be discovered
- Submit sitemaps: Still required crawlers to process the sitemap
IndexNow eliminates this delay. When you publish a press release, search engines know within minutes—not weeks.
Does Google Support IndexNow?
No. As of January 2026, Google does not support IndexNow despite testing the protocol since October 2021. Google maintains its own crawling infrastructure and offers a separate Indexing API limited to job postings and live streaming content.
Google's official position is that their crawling systems are efficient enough to discover content quickly without IndexNow. However, this creates a gap for time-sensitive content like press releases.
Why Google Hasn't Adopted IndexNow
- Spam concerns: Google worries about abuse and manipulation
- Crawling investment: Google has invested heavily in their own crawling infrastructure
- Control preference: Google prefers to control discovery timing
- Quality signals: Google uses crawl patterns as quality signals
For press releases, this means IndexNow gets you indexed by Bing, Yandex, and others immediately—but Google indexing still depends on traditional crawling signals like backlinks and sitemap submission.
Which Search Engines Support IndexNow?
IndexNow is supported by several major search engines:
| Search Engine | Region | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Bing | Global | ✅ Co-founder of IndexNow |
| Yandex | Russia/CIS | ✅ Co-founder of IndexNow |
| Naver | South Korea | ✅ Supported |
| Seznam.cz | Czech Republic | ✅ Supported |
| Yep | Global (privacy-focused) | ✅ Supported |
| Global | ❌ Not supported |
The ping-once-notify-many architecture means submitting to one IndexNow endpoint automatically notifies all participating search engines.
IndexNow and AI Search Engines
While IndexNow doesn't directly notify AI systems like ChatGPT or Perplexity, it plays a crucial role in AI discoverability:
The Bing-to-ChatGPT Pipeline
Microsoft's Bing is integrated with:
- ChatGPT: Uses Bing for web search when browsing is enabled
- Microsoft Copilot: Bing-powered AI assistant
- Perplexity: Uses multiple sources including Bing's index
When your content is indexed by Bing via IndexNow, it becomes available to these AI systems faster. This is part of the broader Citation Economy where fast indexing increases citation opportunities.
Five-Layer Optimization Stack
Instant indexing is one component of comprehensive AI discoverability:
- SEO: Schema.org markup, meta tags, structured data
- AEO: Answer Engine Optimization for featured snippets
- GEO: Generative Engine Optimization for AI citation
- LLMO: LLM Optimization infrastructure (llms.txt)
- ADP: AI Discovery Protocol endpoints
IndexNow accelerates Layer 1 (SEO) and Layer 2 (AEO) by ensuring search engines know about your content immediately.
How Pressonify Automates IndexNow
Pressonify automatically submits content to IndexNow when you publish a press release. Here's what gets submitted:
17 URLs Auto-Submitted Per Press Release
- 1. Press Release Page: /news/your-pr-slug
- 2. News Index: /news (updated listing)
- 3. RSS Feed: /rss.xml
- 4. JSON Feed: /feed.json
- 5. Updates Feed: /updates.json
- 6. llms.txt: Updated with new content
- 7. llms-full.txt: Extended content file
- 8. AI Sitemap: /ai-sitemap.xml
- 9-17. ADP Endpoints: All discovery endpoints updated
Automatic Notification Flow
- You publish a press release on Pressonify
- Our system generates the PR page with Schema.org markup
- IndexNow API is called with all 17 URLs
- Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam, and Yep are notified
- Indexing begins within minutes (not weeks)
While competitors like PR Newswire, BusinessWire, and GlobeNewswire don't implement IndexNow (or even /llms.txt), Pressonify handles instant indexing automatically.
Technical Implementation
For developers interested in implementing IndexNow:
IndexNow API Call
POST https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow
Content-Type: application/json
{
"host": "pressonify.ai",
"key": "YOUR_INDEXNOW_KEY",
"keyLocation": "https://pressonify.ai/YOUR_INDEXNOW_KEY.txt",
"urlList": [
"https://pressonify.ai/news/your-press-release",
"https://pressonify.ai/news",
"https://pressonify.ai/feed.json"
]
}
Key Requirements
- Host verification: Place key file at root (e.g., /abc123.txt)
- URL limit: Maximum 10,000 URLs per submission
- Key format: Hexadecimal string (a-f, 0-9), 8-128 characters
- Rate limiting: No hard limit, but avoid excessive submissions

Measuring IndexNow Success
Track instant indexing effectiveness with these metrics:
Bing Webmaster Tools
- Submitted URLs: Number of URLs submitted via IndexNow
- Indexed URLs: Number actually indexed
- Indexing time: Time from submission to indexing
- Errors: Failed submissions or rejected URLs
Pressonify Dashboard Metrics
- IndexNow submissions: Total URLs submitted
- Success rate: Percentage of successful submissions
- Per-PR breakdown: URLs submitted per press release
Expected Results
- Before IndexNow: 2-4 weeks for Bing indexing
- After IndexNow: Minutes to hours for Bing indexing
- AI discovery: Faster availability in ChatGPT/Copilot searches
